When it comes to the Arctic, we’ve been talking in numbers a lot lately. We’re going to take a break from the math for a minute to talk about one of the many reasons we’re working so hard to protect the Arctic: the wildlife. And for the record, Arctic sea ice experienced the lowest levels of sea ice ever recorded this August (we couldn’t resist)!
The Arctic is currently at risk from oil companies like Shell looking to profit from sea ice melt by drilling in the Arctic Ocean.
We have to prevent companies to drill in the Arctic as these low sea ice levels only encourage them. An oil spill in this area is not only a likely occurrence, it would be disastrous for the surrounding ecosystem particularly, not to mention the global climate. Join us to protect the future of these amazing creatures and each of our futures as well. Save the Arctic!

The Arctic fox, also known as white fox, polar fox or snow fox. Its fur changes color with the seasons: white in the winter, to blend in with snow and brown in the summer.

The narwhal is one of the most vulnerable arctic marine mammals to climate change.

Polar bears. Adult males can grow to be 10 feet tall and weigh over 1400 pounds.

The walrus can stay underwater for up to 30 minutes.

Seals are thought to have evolved from bear, or otter-like ancestors who lived on land.

I think in order to save the artic it’s not enough to say that drilling should not be done. There needs to be some type of involvement from people in business so those who live in Alaska can have jobs that are just as lucrative as the jobs created by drilling but that involve little negative environmental impact.- In addition citizens need to see the impact that drilling has had on other areas.
I keep having this reoccurring sinking feeling that ‘big oil’ and hence all the powers that be, continue deliberately to accelerate ‘warming’ in order specifically to get at the potential oil in the arctic……how is it possible for anyone, even Greenpeace to stop them?
No doubt, the world is being destroyed by the human kind; by the ones moved by ambition (the rich) and the ones moved by their need to survive (the poor). We must set strict regulations to the rich profits while also regulate population growth for our planet has a limit. That’s why the work GREENPEACE does around the world is critical to stop corporations from spoiling the earth and to protect ecosystems. I wish all GREENPEACE activists a “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year full of triumphs and environmental achievments!! Sincerelly, Luis Nexans
It seems like a hundred years ago when I grew up on the beaches
of Laguna, California. I was a member of Greenpeace way back then, me & my earth friendly feet, hands & surfboard….
Of Late, my 12 y/o grandson has been pointing out the Snow Fox to me. talking all about it’s history and that this very fox has given him his life’s destination. Which brought me to this page, looking for pictures for him. but then I read about the rate of the melting.
Fact is, I do’t have money, I am severely disabled. what kind of a difference can this one person make?
